₃Li (Lithium)

Lithium was discovered by Johan Arfvedson in 1817 in Stockholm, Sweden, during an analysis of petalite (LiAlSi4O10). He found the petalite contained “silica, alumina and an alkali.” The new alkali metal in the petalite had unique properties.

Lithium is a chemical element with symbol Li and atomic number 3. It is a soft, silvery-white alkali metal. Under standard conditions, it is the lightest metal and the lightest solid element.
